The Podcast Network (TPN) is a company founded by Cameron Reilly and Mick Stanic, two Australian media identities. The company is one of the world's first podcasting businesses, having launched on February 14, 2005. It currently produces over 95 podcasts and has a claimed monthly global audience of over five hundred thousand people. The company's stated goal is to produce high quality digital programming on a wide variety of niche topics to global audiences and to attempt to re-invent media business models and formats by leveraging emerging production and distribution technologies and harnessing the global increase in citizen media content.

[edit] History

Having produced Australia's first podcast[citation needed] ("G'Day World" on November 26, 2004), Reilly and Stanic also produced the world's first "Skypecast" by recording individual sides of a Skype call and stitching them together in post-production.[citation needed] Joining them for the launch of TPN on Valentine's Day were Richard Giles and Ewan Spence, bringing together The Gadget Show and The Mobiles Show podcasts respectively.

Mark Hunter, previously signed with PodShow, joined TPN in March 2006 with The Mellow Monday Show.

Mick Stanic announced on his personal blog that he had left TPN on May 19, 2006, as his presence was holding back both the growth of TPN and his own life.[1]

Brian Ibbott (from the Coverville podcast) joined TPN in October 2006 bringing with him the podcast Today in Music History [2].

On October 31, 2006, TPN announced a pilot joint production with Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, launching an entertainment gossip podcast called 'Showbuzz'.

On September 27, 2007, TPN announced it had signed a deal with British actor, writer and comedian John Cleese to produce a series of video podcasts called HEADCAST to be published on TPN's website.

In April 2008, TPN was successfully hacked due to software updates not being applied over the previous six months[3].

[edit] Awards

2005 saw The Edinburgh Fringe Show nominated for a Scottish BAFTA Award for Interactive Media [4]. In December 2006, The Podcast Network was selected by EContent Magazine as one of their Top 100 "companies that matter most in the digital content industry". [5].
