The People's Choice (TV series)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The People's Choice was a 1955-1958 half-hour black-and-white American television sitcom airing on NBC. It starred Jackie Cooper as Socrates "Sock" Miller, a New City, California politician with a basset hound named "Cleo", whose thoughts, as she balefully observes Sock's dilemmas, are recorded on the soundtrack for the viewers' amusement. At one point, Sock marries his girlfriend Mandy Peoples (Patricia Breslin) but keeps the marriage a secret because her father, the mayor (Paul Maxey), disapproves of their relationship.
The show was created by Irving Brecher, who also created The Life of Riley TV show in 1949. Cooper, who had been a major child star in the 1930s, subsequently starred in another television situation comedy called Hennesey during the same era.
