The Paseo

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Paseo (also known as Paseo Boulevard or Paseo) is a major north/south boulevard that runs more than 85 blocks in the middle of Kansas City, Missouri from Cliff Drive & Lexington Avenue on the bluffs above the Missouri River in the Pendleton Heights historic neighborhood to 85th Street & Woodland Avenue.

The boulevard was laid out in the early 1900s under the guidance of August Meyer who had brought in George Kessler to design Kansas City's extensive boulevard system as part of the City Beautiful movement. A Daniel Chester French sculpture to Meyer is at 10th and Paseo and was dedicated in 1909. The Paseo is modeled on the Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City. The northern parts of the street and southern portions have become blighted and are considered part of the "ghettos" of Kansas City. [1]
