The Paper of Montgomery County

The Paper of Montgomery County is a daily afternoon newspaper in Montgomery County, Indiana. It first rolled off the presses on November 24, 2004 and publishes Monday-Saturday.

"The Paper", as it is referred to by its staff and readers, was the brainchild of Gaildene Hamilton, who served as editor of the Journal Review (the morning daily in Montgomery County) for many years. Hamilton was originally slated as the editor of "The Paper", but died suddenly in July 2004.

Barry Lewis currently serves as the community editor. Tim Timmons is the publisher. "The Paper" is owned by a group of eleven local business men and women, including Timmons.

As its name suggests, "The Paper" is truly a local newspaper, and devotes only half a page to state, national and world news. "The Paper of Montgomery County Indiana is a daily newspaper devoted to promoting the people and events of Montgomery County," its mission states on its website. "We believe that a good newspaper and a good community go hand in hand. Our mission is to uphold our end of that proposition."

On July 1, 2005, "The Paper" acquired The Weekly of West Central Indiana, making the two the largest news vehicle in Montgomery County. "The Paper" also news-gathering partners with Indianapolis television station WISH-TV.

On April 2, 2007, the daily switched from afternoon to morning publication. Subscribers now receive it in the mail.
