[edit] History

The founding of the Revue in around 1952/3 is (like all great creations) shrouded in mystery. The most accurate account of it to date is probably that of Michael Palin, former Revue Director, who describes how his brother-in-law and 'another mad gentleman' started the Oxford Theatre Group, as a source of funding for Edinburgh shows, in the early 1950s. From this, he "helped found an offshoot group, the Oxford Revue Group, to take a revue up to the Edinburgh Fringe". [1]

Former members include Dudley Moore, Alan Bennett, Rowan Atkinson, Michael Palin, Terry Jones, Ken Loach, Angus Deayton, Rebecca Front, Armando Iannucci, Richard Curtis, Philip Pope, Al Murray, Laura Solon, Sally Philips, Emma Kennedy, David Schneider, Patrick Marber, Rob Hayward, Will Pooley, Stewart Lee and Richard Herring. [edit] Current activities

The Revue have just returned from Edinburgh, where their show 'Sacred Roadworks' was well-received by critics[2] and frequently sold out. They have launched a fortnightly comedy night in Oxford's Wheatsheaf pub under the name 'The Oxford Revue's Write Off' and are preparing for a week-long run in November at Oxford's Old Fire Station in 'The Oxford Revue present FEAR'.

The past year has seen the Revue perform in several venues. The highlight was Childish Things 3, a one night fundraiser for Helen and Douglas House where they performed at the New Theatre, Oxford to a capacity audience of 1,800 alongside Jimmy Carr, Stephen Fry, Alan Davies, Harry Enfield and others. [3] The Revue were recently glad to welcome and work on their material with alumni Richard Herring and Emma Kennedy.

Performances since October 2006 have also included a one-week run at the Old Fire Station, a one night fundraiser for UNICEF, the Oxford University Dramatic Society's Revue evening, a joint performance with the Cambridge Footlights and the Durham Revue, a one-week run at the Moser Theatre, and the one-nighter mentioned above, which sold out the Oxford Playhouse.
