The One Club is an American non-profit organization that recognizes and promotes excellence in advertising. [1]

Founded in 1975 in New York City as The One Club for Art & Copy, The One Club produces three annual award competitions:

  • One Show
  • One Show Design
  • One Show Interactive

The One Club exists to champion and promote excellence in advertising and design in all its forms. It is the world's foremost non-profit organization devoted to elevating creative work in the industry. It seeks to celebrate the legacy of creative advertising and to use that legacy to inspire future generations. The One Club is the 'keeper of the flame' for advertising creatives. The One Show remains the pinnacle of achievement by providing a showcase of the world’s best work, and by inviting collaboration among individuals that are actively developing outstanding work.

The One Club exists to educate and inspire students of the business, and benefit the next generation through scholarships, portfolio reviews and annual student exhibitions and competitions.

The awards are called One Show gold pencils.

[edit] Overview of One Show

The One Show, the premiere international advertising award show, sets the industry standard for creative excellence with categories including print, television radio, outdoor, innovative media and marketing, and integrated branding. Each year, a wide variety of work -- from multinational advertising giants to small regional shops -- is judged by an international jury of award-winning art directors, copywriters and creative directors.

The One Show jury spends hours and days into nights giving careful consideration to more than 18,000 entries from nearly 60 countries. Selecting 500 finalists from this large pool of work is often a labor of love. What differentiates the One Show from other advertising award shows has always been a consistent and focused regard for the creative concept. The One Show, simply, is about great ideas.

[edit] Education

Based on its primary mission to support the next generation of advertising and design creatives, The One Club’s Education Department offers several programs throughout the year.

The One Show College Competition gives students the opportunity to have their work judged by the One Show jury and the potential of winning a coveted One Show Pencil.

The Annual Student Exhibition hosts curated portfolio work from the top graduating students of the best local and international advertising programs.

Seasonal Portfolio Reviews connect premier industry creatives with aspiring students and young professionals for invaluable one-on-one critiques.

The annual Education Festival challenges, instructs and celebrates future industry creatives as well as their instructors.

The annual One Club Education Summit examines educational and industry trends with the aim to improve the educational standards at the participating advertising programs.

The One Club Scholarships recognize and enable the best emerging talent in advertising today.

The Outreach Programs promote the creativity among minority schools and developing countries, and encourage diversity and participation in the industry.

Client Pitch

The Client Pitch Competition offers the One Show College Competition entrants another chance to compete with their work. While the One Show College Competition winners are selected based on the creative concept, the Client Pitch Competition will be judged by the 'pitch' skill and ability to give a persuasive presentation. The finalist teams will be giving a live presentation to a panel of judges, including Creative Directors and the College Competition client executives.

College Competition

One of the most acclaimed advertising and graphic design student competitions is the annual One Show College Competition, a tradition dating back to 1975.

The $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000 prizes are awarded to the Gold, Silver and Bronze Pencil winning teams, respectively. The Pencil winners are awarded at the annual One Show Education Festival awards ceremony and finalists are published in the One Show Annual. The finalist works also will be exhibited as part of the One Show Traveling Exhibition in many US and international cities.

Portfolio Reviews

One Club Portfolio Reviews provide students and young professionals from across the country a unique opportunity to obtain professional criticism from the industry's top creatives. Unlike at other reviews, our reviewers are all AD, CW, CD and Designers with many years of experience.

Student Exhibition

The annual exhibition invites select schools of advertising and graphic design to showcase their top seniors' portfolios. The industry creatives and recruiters visit the exhibition to find new talent.

Scholarships

Patrick Kelly Scholarship was established by Euro RSCG New York in conjunction with The One Club to honor the late Patrick Kelly. This scholarship is awarded to a student of advertising based on the merits of his or her portfolio, essays, and recommendations. The winner will be awarded with $2,000 at the One Show Education Festival awards ceremony in May.
