[edit] Name and Philosophy
The name "The Old Triangle" is taken from a song from Irish playwright Brendan Behan's play The Quare Fellow. The song name is usually written as "The Auld Triangle".
The philosophy of both locations is "Ceoil, Caint Agus Craic" (Singing, Talking and Merriment).
[edit] Location(s)
To date, two traditional Irish pubs in the Canadian Maritime provinces. There are plans to incorporate more locations in the near future. So far, there is one in Halifax, NS and one in Moncton, NB. They are the brainchild of Brian Doherty and Kevin Evans (of Evans & Doherty musical fame) and Gerry Guest, for the Halifax pub, and Steven Gallagher, for the Moncton pub.
[edit] Moncton Pub
The pub in Moncton is a highlight of any outing in Moncton and has brought the Irish experience to the forefront in dining and nightlife. Music is key in the atmosphere in The Old Triangle with live music almost nightly, featuring acts from the Celtic/Maritime sector (Evans & Doherty, Barry Williams, 1749, The Crew, Lazy Jacks, etc).
The General Manager for the Moncton location is Shonda Wilkins, with supervisors Terri Johnston (kitchen), Michael Bryant (floor), and Kevin T. Carson (bar). The bar at the Moncton location is round with a mirrored divider with all product duplicated on each side.
The Moncton location opened in January, 2006 and has enjoyed great success.
[edit] Halifax Pub
The pub in Halifax is located in the former home of Nova Scotia Premier and Lieutenant Governor Joseph Howe. The owners of the pub in Halifax are Brian and Cheryl Doherty. Brian is a renowned musician, most highly regarded as a member of the duo Evans and Doherty.
[edit] Food
The pubs serve traditional Irish fare from the kitchen (Old Dublin pasties, boxties, steak & kidney, curry and chips, etc) as well as from the tap (Guinness, Harp Lager, etc) and the bottle (Jameson, Jamesons 1780, etc). The pub in Moncton features many nostalgic items from an actual pub in Ireland that the owner, Steve Gallagher's, father-in-law possessed in his own pub.
