The Oa

The Oa is a rocky region in the south west of Islay and an RSPB nature reserve. It used to have a population of 4000 in 1830 but became deserted due to the Highland Clearances. Northern Ireland can be seen from the south peninsula on a clear day, which is also the location of the American Monument.
