The Night Journey (novel)

The Night Journey is a 1981 novel by Kathryn Lasky. In it, Nana Sashie tells of her escape from Russia to her great-grandchild, Rachel. Then Nana Sashie dies. She refused food for the past week and has decided to die. She was married to Reuven Bloom for 40 years before moving to Minnesota.

Open Court Reading took the book and shortened it, giving Rachel the name "Rache". The story starts with a background of the story and then the story from Ed's gift - a samovor - and then Nana Sashie looking upset. Then we go to Sashie wanting to keep the gift in her bedroom. Finally, Rache sneaks into Nana Sashie's room to look at the samovor but ends up hearing Nana's tale.
