The New Northwest

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The New Northwest was a weekly Portland, Oregon newspaper published during the years of 1871 to 1887 by Abigail Scott Duniway, an active voice of reform and suffrage on the West Coast of the United States. Its motto was Free Speech, Free Press, Free People.

The paper included news reports, essays, travel correspondence (such as trips Duniway took with Susan B. Anthony), and serialized fiction such as that edited into the novel Edna and John: A Romance of Idaho Flat (ISBN 0-87422-188-9).

Selections from the newspaper were included in Yours for Liberty: Selections from Abigail Scott Duniway's Suffrage Newspaper (ISBN 0-87071-474-0) from the Oregon State University Press.
