The National Park (Ramat Gan)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Park (Hebrew: הפארק הלאומי‎, HaPark HaLe'umi) is a large urban park in Ramat Gan, Israel. It is not actually a national park. The park covers an area of 1.9 km².[1] As such, it is the second largest urban park in Israel, after the Yarkon Park.

The park was named after Avraham Krinitzi, the first mayor of Ramat Gan. It includes an artificial lake and other attractions. The park attracts 700-800 thousand visitors annually.[1] The Zoological Center of Tel Aviv-Ramat Gan is adjacent to the park.

In the future, The National Park is set to be incorporated into the planned Ariel Sharon Park.

[edit] History

After the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, new lands were handed over to the jurisdiction of Ramat Gan, then under mayor Avraham Krinitzi. The mayor initiated the park's planting in 1951. It finally opened to the public in 1953. In 1959, an artificial lake was created in the park, which was initially small but slowly grew to its current size between 1959 and the 1970s.
