The Nantucket Beacon was a weekly newspaper on Nantucket Island that was founded in 1988 ceased publication in the mid 1990's
It had won several awards but had been criticized for sensationalism.
On April 1 1992 The paper put April Fools jokes on the first and last two pages. The front page stated that an earthquake destroyed Sankaty Head Light. Doctored photographs of the lighthouse were also on the front page.
