The Mysterious Cities of Gold is a film based on the 1980s animated television series "The Mysterious Cities of Gold", and is due for production and release in 2008 or 2009.[1][2]

[edit] Background

The Mysterious Cities of Gold was produced as a television series through a French/Japanese collaboration between the companies CLT and NHK, in association with the French television channel Antenne 2. The series was first shown in 1982.

After protracted discussions over many years the rights to exploit the concept of the story were secured by Jean Chalopin, one of its original screenwriters, under the auspices of his production company the Movie Plus Group.[3] Soon afterwards the licence to distribute an English language DVD set of the original production was awarded to Fabulous Films.[4]

On November 17, 2007 the Group announced that they would proceed with the production of a film version of the original story in 2008. The film is to be produced using 3D animation.[1] Further details of the production, the people to be involved in it and its likely schedule have yet to be announced.
