[edit] Adapting the books for television
Some artistic license has been taken in adapting the books for television, including name changes, design alterations, the creation of entirely new characters and the gender reassignment of existing characters. Mr. Nosey and Mr. Lazy have undergone complete re-imaginings, and Mr. Jelly has been streamlined for animation and renamed "Mr. Nervous". Little Miss Calamity and Little Miss Daredevil were created exclusively for the television series, while the book’s female characters of Little Miss Stubborn and Little Miss Scatterbrain have been changed to Mr. Stubborn and Mr. Scatterbrain.
[edit] Dillydale
In Roger Hargreaves' original book series, each of the Mr. Men and Little Miss characters were given a hometown: Happyland, TiddleTown, Nonsenseland, etc. In the television series, all the characters live in the same city, the township of Dillydale. The name "Dillydale" was coined by series producer Peggy Regan. To commemorate the historic naming, Peggy was presented with a plaque and the honorary title "the Mayor of Dillydale".

[edit] Running Gags
- Whenever Mr. Stubborn is doing or assuming something wrong, he would often say it's because the item he's using (or place or object he just wrecked or destroyed) is cheap (example: "This bowling alley is cheap!").
- In most episodes in which Mr. Rude appears, he farts loudly, and shortly after this happens, slightly blurred images of Little Miss Helpful, Mr. Grumpy, Mr. Small, Little Miss Scary, Mr. Tickle, Mr. Happy, and Mr. Bump would appear on-screen and shout in unison "MR. RUDE!"
- Whenever Mr. Nervous has one of his hallucinative episodes and runs off screaming, Mr. Rude would say to himself something like "That man is as soft as a grape" (note: on the occasion where Mr. Rude is not around when Mr. Nervous runs off screaming, Little Miss Scary would break the fourth wall by making a humorous remark directly toward the viewers [example: "Some people should never leave their home"]).
- Mr. Tickle saying that somebody "needs a tickle", and then that person (usually Mr. Grumpy) would threaten to do something extremely violent and malicious to him (like rip his arms off) or say something like "try it and you will be kissing my tractor" or "I wouldn't do that if I were you. It's a long way down". Another one is "touch me and I'll bite your arm."
- All the characters have a catchphrase:
- Mr. Tickle: "I think somebody needs a tickle!"
- Little Miss Helpful: "Just trying to be helpful!"
- Little Miss Calamity: "What a calamity!"
- Mr. Grumpy: "Crooked cucumbers!"
- Mr. Strong: "Yo" and "Aw, Pickles!" and "Ok, everyone stand back!"
- Mr. Quiet: "Whatever" and "Not so loud!" and(when in one of Miss Daredevil's stunts) "Not good, not good, not good, not good!"
- Mr. Nervous: "Oh no, no, no!" and "This is the end!"
- Mr. Messy: "Shazam!" and "That's what I'm talking about!"
- Mr. Happy: "Wonderful!"
- Mr. Scatterbrain: "Where is my head?" and "Well, why didn't you say so?"
- Mr. Small: "Great McGilicuty!" and "Good tidings!"
- Little Miss Naughty: "Sometimes, I just can't help myself."
- Mr. Rude: "I'll give you (noun or adjective)" followed by a loud fart."That guy is soft as a (noun)".
- Mr. Stubborn: "This (noun) is cheap!" and "You are wrong (character he is arguing with)"
- Mr. Lazy: "This is too much work." and "This is exhausting." and "Whoa!"
- Little Miss Whoops: "Whoops!" and "Oh sure, I'm a trained professional."
- Mr. Bump: "Poopity poop!" and "You never learn!"
- Mr. Persnickety: "Sweet Henrietta!" and "How Revolting!"
- Mr. Nosy: "Just looking!"
- Mr. Noisy: "I can't hear you!"
- Little Miss Sunshine: "Good Morning Dillydale!" and "Hooray for everybody"!
