The Morphail Effect

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Morphail Effect is a fictitious notion about time travel from Michael Moorcock's science fiction series, The Dancers at the End of Time, as well as other novels in the End of Time series. A character in the novel, Dr. Brannart Morphail, postulates that only certain beings of a particular genetic trait can travel through time (except very temporarily), regardless of the vehicle or power source; all others are restricted to their own time and timeline.

The Morphail Effect further dictates that any person traveling back in time will be naturally "pulled" back forward to the furthest future point in their personal timeline, and that any attempt to change the past will exacerbate the character's being forced back "forward" in time.
