The Monarch School

The Monarch School is a combined primary and secondary school headquartered in Hilshire Village, Texas, United States.
Monarch serves grades kindergarten through 12th grade. Monarch serves children with neurological disorders and learning disabilities, including Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Dyslexia, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Asperger's Syndrome, Autism, Tourette's Syndrome, and Epilepsy [1].
The school has two campuses: Apprentice Campus (at 1231 Wirt Road in Hilshire Village), and the Craig and Lee Williams Challenger Campus (at 1014 Wirt, Suite 210 in Houston.)
The Apprentice Campus has a Houston postal address but is not located in the city of Houston. The Challenger Campus is located in the Houston city limits.
Young adults are also served through the Monarch post-graduate program and through a community-based, school-sponsored supportive living program.

Monarch opened in September 1998 with a total of twenty-three students. In 2001 the school opened the Challenger Campus.
The school plans to move to a new campus at the intersection of Kempwood Drive and Rosefield Drive in Houston by Spring 2009 [2]; both the Challenge and Apprentice campuses will be moved to this campus.

The school is made up of two campuses.
The first campus, Apprentice Campus, lies on grounds owned by the Houston Mennonite Church in the city of Hilshire Village; Monarch has no affiliation with the church.
The second campus, the Craig and Lee Williams Challenger Campus, is located in a Houston business park located north of Interstate 10.
Both campuses are outside of the 610 Loop and inside Beltway 8.
The school is currently involved in a major capital campaign program as it prepares to break ground on the new buildings for its permanent campus, which is to be located in the Spring Branch area of Houston.
[edit] Diagnostic Clinic
In 2004, The Monarch Diagnostic Clinic, housed within both program sites of The Monarch School, was formed to provide services to students of the school and to the community at large. These services include:
- psychological, diagnostic, and educational assessments
- DIR© (Developmental, Individual-Difference, Relationship-Based) therapy services
- speech/language evaluations
- tutoring
- consultation, including training of faculty from other schools.
[edit] School Uniforms
The Monarch School requires its students to wear school uniforms. Currently the uniform is a white or dark green shirt with the Monarch symbol over the left breast, and beige pants or shorts.
