The Mob was an early 1980s hardcore punk band from Jackson Heights, New York, and are credited as being "hardcore pioneers" of the era.[citation needed] Amid local press coverage at the time, in which 'hardcore punk' was seen as a violent and threatening alternative to the currently-trendy New Wave style,[citation needed] The Mob released two 7" vinyl EPs on their own Mob Style Records, and also appeared on the The Big Apple Rotten To The Core compilation in 1982 and on volume 2 in 1987. Guitarist Jack Flanagan later managed the ska-core Boston band The Mighty Mighty Bosstones.
