The Mischievous Dog is a fable attributed to Aesop. It is the story of a dog who is an annoyance to others. The dog's master ties a bell around its neck to warn people. The dog, thinking the bell is a reward, begins to show it off until an older dog reminds him that the bell is not a reward, but a sign of disgrace. The moral of this fable is that notoriety is often mistaken for fame.
