The Metal Observer is an online magazine specialising in heavy metal music. The webzine is based in Alberta, Canada. It is "one of the world's longest-running metal web sites"[1] and has been recognised as "one of the top international online metal resources".[2]
[edit] History
The Metal Observer was first published in the German language when it was launched on May 1, 2000 but an English version arrived soon thereafter on May 26, 2000.[3] The magazine continues to publish material in both languages. In addition to the website, The Metal Observer also hosts a podcast[4] and a radio show in Austria.[5] In May 2001, the magazine established co-operations with magazines in Argentina, Brazil and Chile.[3] In 2005, The Metal Observer spearheaded the Whiplash Open-Air heavy metal concert festival in Strathmore, Alberta.[1]
The magazine has an international perspective and provides coverage of heavy metal bands from all over the world.[6] The staff members include representatives from Australia, Austria, Canada, Chile, Germany, Norway, Poland, South Africa, Sweden, United Kingdom, USA, and the Faroe Islands.[7]
