The Mechanics' Institute Review (affectionately known as MIR) is published annually by Birkbeck, University of London, as part of its MA Creative Writing course. The first two issues of MIR were limited to MA students' short stories and novel extracts, however issue 3 onwards also contains work by published authors, including T. C. Boyle, Courttia Newland and Kate Pullinger. The MIR Project Director is Julia Bell.
