On the whistle, two contenders starting at different points of entry, had to negotiate their way around a five foot high maze which spanned the arena floor. Inside the maze were four Gladiators armed with blocking pads who had the task of blocking and pushing the contender to stop them reaching the other side along with several dead ends. Gladiators are not allowed to pin down a contender.

Contenders had 45 seconds to make their way through to the two exits of the maze, receiving 10 points for the first to make their way through and 5 for second place.

Years active: 1991-1993

The Maze was introduced for the third (1991) series of American Gladiators, lasting for two years. As certain panels were often interchangeable (indicated by their low profile, in contrast to the taller, permanent walls), the maze itself was different everytime. With the progression of the rounds in the competition, the adjustments can be made where there would be only one correct solution to its end.

The blocking gameplay by the Gladiators was later incorporated into the Gauntlet event.

The Maze will not be returning for the 2008 revival.
