The Mark Of Kri (released on July 19, 2002) is a video game produced by Sony Computer Entertainment. It is thought of by some as a silent classic because of its lack of advertising. With an art team comprised mostly of former 2D animators, The Mark of Kri offered a juxtaposition of "cartoony" character designs and over-the-top violence while employing a unique visual style influenced by various Polynesian cultures and art.[2] The game was followed by Rise of the Kasai, which was released in April 2005.
The protagonist, Rau Utu, is a barbarian known as a "great and noble warrior." Trained by his mentor and adopted father, Baumusu, he was taught stealth and extraordinary skill with his straight sword. He was also taught to help those in need rather than act as a mercenary in search for the highest bidder.
The game makes innovative use of the DualShock 2's analog sticks. The left is used for movement and the right for locking on to surrounding enemies.[3]
