[edit] Ownership
The present shopping centre is owned by the The Mall Company, and is often traded as just 'The Mall'. Before takeover by The Mall, the centre was owned by an independent company.
[edit] Centre information
The shopping centre opened on 22 March 1966 as St George's Shopping Centre. It was originally an open-air centre and was roofed over during refurbishment in 1981. It was further refurbished in 1999.[1] The centre has large halls and promenades, lined with shops and stalls. Glass roofs and walls, also are evident in the centre.
[edit] Redevelopment
When The Mall Company took over the centre, they were greeted with an aging shopping centre. A massive development scheme was introduced, and small stalls, main shops, cafes, restaurants, toilets, and escalators were overhauled. The introduction of television screens in the shopping centre has given information and news to the shoppers in the centre. The Mall Company has also put 'Ask Me' points in the centre, so shoppers can ask members of staff directions and other information.
[edit] Transport links
The shopping centre is located between the two main streets of Fishergate and Friargate, and can be reached easily from several transport hubs, including [Preston railway station]] and Preston bus station. The centre is linked with the Preston Park & Ride and Preston Bus services. It has its own multi-storey car park above it.
