The Legend of Chin is the first studio album by the alternative rock band Switchfoot. It was released on June 17, 1997 under independent label re:think Records, which was distributed by Sparrow Records.

The album is named after Willis Chin, a good friend of the members of Switchfoot. The album jacket of The Legend of Chin is covered with pictures of Willis. Willis Chin can also be seen in Switchfoot's DVD Switchfootage, as well as a number of Switchfoot's music videos, like "New Way To Be Human".

  • The song "Chem 6A" refers to an introductory Chemistry course at that Jon Foreman took at UC San Diego.
  • The song "Chem 6A" was Switchfoot's first music video.
  • The album got a positive review from Billboard which called it "An intriguing and surprisingly mature effort for a debut release."[1]
  • The song "You" was featured in the film A Walk to Remember.
  • On June 17, 2007, bassist Tim Foreman announced on the band's official site and on their MySpace that it was their first album's tenth anniversary, and to commemorate the moment, the band added "Life and Love and Why" to their music player on MySpace. Foreman went on to discuss briefly their last ten years together as a band, appreciating the fans and God for all the support.
