"The Last Castle" is a science fiction novelette by Jack Vance. It won the Hugo Award for Best Novelette in 1966 and the Nebula Award for Best Novella in 1966.
The author expand this story to a novel of the same name published in 1973.

Humanity is the idle aristocracy of a world run by slaves of three alien races, until the inscrutable mecs revolt and start destroying the human's castles.
