The LAB, located in San Franciscos historic Redstone Building, is a not-for-profit arts organization and performance space founded in 1984. The LAB is part of a network of, many founded by artists, in the Bay Area.

The Lab supports interdisciplinary artists' in the development and exhibition of new visual, media, literary, and performing art. They work to support "emerging and established experimental artists" who's work "crosses boundaries material, cultural or presentational and encourages new artistic and social dialogue between artists and audiences."[1]

In the mid 1990s, the LAB helped the Clarion Alley Mural Project in the paintings of the murals one sees when walking into the Redstone Building to visit the LAB.

The LAB also hosts 2 visual and 2 performing artist residencies per year in their main gallery space, as well as workshops, panels, and performances.[2]

Artists who have shown at the LAB include James Stark, Rebeca Bollinger, Guillermo Gómez-Peña, Nao Bustamante, Lise Swenson, Felipe Dulzaides, Amy Rathbone, Beth Lisick, Paul DeMarinis, Anthony Discenza, Trevor Paglen, Beth Custer and many more.[3]
