The Id is the second studio album by American R&B/soul singer Macy Gray, released in September 2001 (see 2001 in music), just after the September 11, 2001 attacks, perhaps the main reason for its underperformance in the U.S.; it debuted and peaked at number eleven on the Billboard 200, but fell to number twenty-five the next week. Nevertheless, The Id (frequently mistyped as The ID) charted higher than Gray's debut album On How Life Is in many European countries, reaching the top position in the United Kingdom and Denmark. It also managed to produce the critically-acclaimed single "Sweet Baby", which features fellow R&B/soul singer Erykah Badu.
