The IRS (The Intoxicating Rhythm Section), were a Kildare rock hip hop act. The group was formed in 1988 by Robbie Robinson, Steve Mangan, John Byrne, Mick O'Rourke and Sean McMahon. Named best live act of 1988 by influential journalist B.P. Fallon. The IRS later signed a record deal with Rhythm King Records (S-Express, Betty Boo, Bomb the Bass) however Mangan left before any recordings were released. Mangan was replaced by Amanda Lawlor but the band disintegrated following a trip to play in Cologne with Blur.
