[edit] Basic Info

They say that, more often than not, you wait when you want a good thing. In some cases the anticipation is met with disappointing anticlimax but, on the flipside, it is all undeniably worth it.

For The Hotel Charlie, a small time band from Sydney, Australia; the latter has already been heard many times over after only a handful of official shows and four very well received tracks (currently) only found on the bands Myspace page[1]. Since being conceived in early 2003 by the minds of one Shaun F. Dwyer and one Timothy F. Hay, this five-piece has been kicking around in some form and the birth of said group finally came about in February of 2006 and since then have developed a very solid sound. A full line up complete and rehearsals underway 3 years of songwriting turns into what has now become widely known as an incendiary group of young musicians doing what they love for the great big musical family they’ve found themselves a part of.

With change in current musical scenery occurring as frequently as a heartbeat, The Hotel Charlie maintain that a great piece of music is timeless, and have crafted songs that seem to appeal to even the most cultured of tastes. The vocals of Timothy Hay are spot-on, the rhythms are driving and infectious and the song grooves along at a great pace. Their demo song ‘Rock Rock Dance’ is catchy without being gratuitously pop; rock enough to jump around your bedroom to; not heavy but not soft; perfect enough to make any band who tries to mix melody and rock green with envy. To do what they do best this outfit of gentlemen takes its time to not fall under the pressures that have ruined so many bands in todays cutthroat, image-saturated, music industry. Drawing influence from many a musical place, The Hotel Charlie seems to be rapidly finding a home in any musical palate.

With a record slated for release the final quarter of 2007 The Hotel Charlie looks to be an honest story of a hardworking band happening, as it does, regardless of what is going on around it both up in the limelight, and back down in real life.

[edit] Origin of Name

Some may say this was supernatural. One day Shaun says "How about The Hotel Charlie? Something about those three words works so well for me." It simply worked for all the guys in the band as well and has stuck ever since.

Though the spooky but of the story is; unbeknownst to anyone else in the band, the week before Shaun proposed The Hotel Charlie, Nick received a phone call from a friend of his who was hanging out at a hotel in Sydney called Charlie Chan’s. Whoa.

A Hotel Charlie is also a kayaking term for dangerous water, although the band didn’t realise this until long after they came up with the name.

[edit] Members

The band consists of Timothy Hay doing lead vocals, Nicholas Fraser on guitar and backup vocals, Andrew Phelan on the drums, Shaun Dwyer on the guitar and finally David Smith on the bass.

[edit] Genre(s)

The Hotel Charlie have been quoted as saying that they do not liked to be tied down to more than one genre, and that its up to the listeners own perception. Soaring vocals, hard-edge attractive guitars, tasteful powerhouse drumming, and oh-so-silky-smooth bass lines make a unique, musical treat for every listener. But if forced to put a name to their unique style of music Hard Edge, Melodic Rock, Rock and Dance could all fit the profile at one point or another.

[edit] Future Plans

The Hotel Charlie are currently working on building up their fan base around the pub scenes of Sydney and Melbourne, but have plans to release an, as yet untitled (and eagerly awaited), EP in 2008 and one day hope to be heard all over the world.
