"The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World" ("El Ahogado mas Hermoso del Mundo") is a 1968 short story by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

This is a story describing how a huge drowned man washes up upon the coast near a village. The inhabitants of this village then create a back story and complete persona of this drowned man. They then proceed to call him Esteban. The villagers begin to become intertwined with his life. The story ends with a fantastical funeral for Esteban.
