The Gris Gris
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Gris Gris is a four-piece psych rock band from Oakland, California. They dabble in themes of religion, namely the Catholic religion. Their name was partially inspired by the Dr. John album Gris-Gris. The group was signed to Birdman Records in 2003 after a member of Birdman artist The Cuts sent the label a Gris Gris demo [1]. Vocalist/guitarist Greg Ashley is originally from Texas and also has a solo album, Medicine Fuck Dream, as well as two albums with previous band The Mirrors.
They have played on bills with …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Ponys, and The Apes.
