The Greatest Ukrainians

The Greatest Ukrainians (Ukrainian: Великі українці) is an Ukrainian TV project which is in its production stage as a nationwide TV talk show. Audience of the talk show is about to participate in interactive voting for famous Ukrainian persons.
The show is running under a license from the BBC and originally has appeared on British TV under the name 100 Greatest Britons which has had there nationwide success. Such countries as Canada, France, Germany, Holland and many others have also created their own versions. Every country have demonstrated a specific approach especially in selection of their famous persons. The same way in Ukraine the show is about to have hot discussions in regards to who of famous persons in Ukraine can be considered Great Ukrainians.
The TV show is scheduled to be broadcasted in 2007-2008 season on Inter (TV channel) being 90-180 minutes long during Sunday prime-time. Host of this program Savik Shuster is about to start primaries (pre-voting) during his another Friday talk show The Freedom with Savik Shuster. Co-host of the programme is Inter's news anchor Hanna Homonay. Pre-voting has been made in number of Ukranian cities such as Kiev, Lviv, Yalta, Kharkiv, Odessa, Donetsk, Simferopol, Nizhyn, Mykolayiv, Ostroh, Chernivtsi, and Kamianets-Podilskyi.
On April 11th, 2008, the top 100 of Great Ukrainians were announced. The top 10 is to be re-voted, and the results will be show on May 16th, 2008. They are:

An hour long documentary was filmed on each of the top 10 nominees, each of them hosted by a celebrity advocate, who delivered a passionate argument as to why their choice should be voted the greatest Ukrainian of all. The series concluded with a debate on the merits of each selected Ukrainian, bringing all of the advocates together to make a final plea to voters.

Chief of project “Great Ukrainians”, journalist Vakhtang Kipiani inform the public in his blog, that system of vote vas manipulated by unknown persons. For example, winner, Yaroslav I, the Wise received 60.000 votes in whole month and almost 550.000 in just one day. Nikolay Amosov, that stays in second, receive almost 150.000 votes in just one day.
