Megan uses the magic of the Rainbow of Light to keep a storm away from the Paradise Estate's orchards. Her younger brother Danny sees a chance for some mischief, and takes control of the Rainbow, drenching his sisters in rain. The prank is observed by the Gizmonks, a pair of monkeys with a gadget obsession. Gloating about their collection of inventions, the Gizmonks decide that they must add the Rainbow of Light to it.

Later, when the pegasus pony Surprise takes Danny flying for some aerial photography, the two are captured by a dinosaur-like creature. It takes them to a laboratory and hands them over to the Gizmonks, who lock them in a cage with an assortment of monsters.

A rat-like creature named Drudge is sent to inform Megan that Danny and Surprise will be held prisoner until the Rainbow of Light is surrendered to the Gizmonks. Megan says she'll get back to them, and has Wind Whistler follow Drudge as she returns the message.

When Drudge enters the laboratory, Danny and Surprise have sweet-talked the Gizmonks, feigning an interest in their machines. As soon as the pair are let loose, they begin destroying everything in sight and releasing all the creatures from their cages. By the time Megan and Wind Whistler arrive to help, the Gizmonks have been chased out by a stampede of their own specimens, and Drudge is hailing Danny and Surprise as heroes. The pair attempt a suitably heroic exit - which is somewhat marred when Surprise crashes straight into the nearest tree.

[edit] Notes

  • Features the song 'Inventing Is Such Fun'
  • The first 'My Little Pony' episode to be written by an author other than George Arthur Bloom, who wrote the initial specials, the movie and the first fourteen episodes of the series.
  • Within the episode when Whizzer appears, she either talks with Surprise's voice or her lips move while Surprise talks.
  • This is the first and last time the Rainbow of Light is used in the television series. The Rainbow Locket appears once more in The Quest of the Princess Ponies, but it's lost before the Rainbow can be released.
