[edit] History

In 1836, 6 men founded a private curling club for their personal use. During the first years of the club, a number of prominent Canadians became members, including John A. Macdonald, Canada's first Prime minister.

In 1881, the Granite Club relocated, due to a continually expanding member population. The new location featured the club's first tennis courts, and lawn bowling facilities.

In 1925, the club purchased a new property, again to accommodate more members. The newly built location featured seven badminton courts, bowling lanes, squash courts and a pool in addition to the club's traditional skating, curling, and tennis facilities.

By 1969, the club was bubbling in size, causing a decision to be made to move to its present location. The present facilities were opened in 1972. Boasting over 11 000 current members, the Granite club continues to grow.
