[edit] Plot summary

In 1917, Ramses Emerson is called on to serve his country once more. By going incognito to Gaza to identify a man who may be his uncle -- but who may also be targeted for assassination by the British. Ramses gets more help than he bargained for when he discovers his parents and wife intend to follow him (in disguise, of course!) to provide backup.

Meanwhile, Cyrus Vandergelt and his adopted son Bertie search for a rumored cache in the hills above Deir el Medina.

[edit] Title

The title of the book refers to the goddess Hathor:

We praise the Golden One, the Lady of Heaven, Lady of Fragrance, Eye of the Sun, the Great Goddess, Mistress of All the Gods, Lady of Turquoise, Mistress of Joy, Mistress of Music ... that she may give us fine children, happiness, and a good husband.

Epithets of Hathor, compiled from various sources, from the front matter of The Golden One
