The Gnostic is a 2006 short film directed by Joseph McDougall II. Screenplay by Robert Subiaga, Jr., based on his short story “Koan”, published in a 1996 issue of the magazine Tales of the Unanticipated. Starring Francesco Quinn and Zhen Pu Long Ha. Running time is 5 minutes.

Thane Le Mal (Quinn), a mysterious wandering warrior (never explicitly named in the film) confronts Desarimu (Long Ha), an arrogant monk, over the proper meaning of one of Zen’s oldest and most famous teaching stories.

- It premiered at the Underground Vegas Film Showcase in April 2006 and was an Official Selection at the 2006 Underground Vegas Film Festival, the 2007 Venice Beach Free World Film Festival, and 2007's The Dam Short Film Festival
- Author Robert Subiaga, Jr. is a veteran of over ten years in inner-city education with American Indian youth, and the main character’s original name (Ah-mah-me-kee-o-ba-ba-yun) really means “Father of Thunder” in a dialect of the Ojibwe language.
