[edit] Synopsis
Gretchen Grundler, school genius, waiting to be disciplined for misbehaviour in the headmaster's office? Surely such a thing cannot be true. But rather than protesting her innocence, Gretchen is all too conscious of her crimes.
In the black-and-white shades of an old movie, she tells her new-found delinquent friend how it all began with a well-meant gift, a talking computer (nicknamed Galileo) which Gretchen came to love too much. When Galileo disappeared during sports practice, Gretchen set off on a mission to retrieve it, which ended up drawing her to the darkest side of the Third Street playground and deals with graffiti artists, delinquents and thieves. Instead of bringing Galileo back, all her efforts have led to nothing but a summons to the school office. But the kids and teachers of Third Street are more unpredictable than Gretchen thought, and her brush with the law is set to end in a surprising way.
