The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past is an upcoming romantic comedy that is a new take on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. It is directed by Mark Waters, written by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, and stars Matthew McConaughey. Filming began on February 19, 2008 in Boston, Massachusetts;[1] it is set to be released exactly one year later on February 19, 2009.[2]

A womanizer is haunted by the ghosts of his former girlfriends at his younger brother's wedding. The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Present, and Future take him on a journey through his romantic history (à la Ebenezer Scrooge) to help him come to a realization about his ways with women.[1]

It was originally set up at Walt Disney Pictures with Ben Affleck attached to play the lead character. Production was to begin in the fall of 2003, but budgetary concerns and the failure of Gigli resulted in the cancellation of the film one month prior to shooting.
