The Furor is a black metal band from Perth, Western Australia formed in September 2002.
The furor formed as the result of the dissolution of drummer/lead vocalist Louis Rando's band Pagan and guitarist Nick Bell's former band Samain. Jon "Kill Machine" Dunlop was from various extreme acts including the grindcore/black metal band Impact Winter. He joined on bass after the recording of an unreleased 5-track demo of material that would feature on their debut album. (NB: Contrary to some sources, Rando did not become the vocalist by accident when the band's singer at the time failed to turn up for a performance, he became the lead vocalist for his former band Pagan during a similar circumstance. Rando has always been the lead vocalist for The Furor.)
During 2003 The Furor began work on the album "Invert Absolute" that was eventually released in 2004 by Perth label Prime Cuts. In February 2005 they appeared at the Perth leg of the Metal for the Brain festival and in November their next full length album "Advance Australia Warfare" was released, featuring a bonus video track of the song "Thrive On War" from the previous album. The Furor also toured nationally with U.S. death metal band Nile.
In January 2006 The Furor went on tour with Polish black metal band Behemoth. Bell then left the band to pursue other interests and Dunlop switched to guitar duties; Daniel "Kingslayer" Coombs, formerly of Wollongong black metal bands Secratain and Pestilential Shadows, joined on bass guitar. On 4 November, 2006 The Furor played at Metal for the Brain in Canberra.
2007 saw the release of the 3-track promotional EP "Assault by Fire" in June, featuring tracks from their forthcoming third full length album due in 2008. In August The Furor toured Australia once more, this time in support of Sweden's black metal band Marduk.
