The Forum is a stunning community building for the people of Norfolk and Norwich located in the heart of Norwich, Norfolk which was designed by Michael Hopkins and Partners.Standing opposite it is St. Peter Mancroft Church.
The Forum is a Millennium project for the East of England. Inside this striking, modern building visitors will find the UK's busiest library, the local Tourist Information Centre, a café bar popular with everyone from business people to mothers and todlers, a pizza restaurant overlooking the city centre, a Learning Shop offering careers advice and City learning Station offering computer courses. The BBC East Studio is also located in the building.
Accomplishing the meaning of its Latin name (forum meaning: meeting place), the Norwich ‘Forum’ is very busy and is popularly used to hold various public events throughout the year. The building also houses cafe bars, the BBC East centre and the Norfolk & Norwich Millennium (NML) library. As part of its effort to reach broader audiences throughout the local community, the Library currently has a thriving "MySpace" page.
Since The Forum opened, the amphitheatre-like steps at the front have provided the venue for many different functions such as: amateur theatrical performances, outdoor opera, musical competitions, art exhibitions, processions, celebrations and a real-ice skating rink.
The Forum is part of Norwich 12, the UK’s finest collection of individually outstanding heritage buildings spanning the Norman, medieval, Georgian, Victorian and modern eras.
