The Force Behind the Power is a 1991 album, released by Diana Ross on the Motown label. Featuring production from the likes of James Anthony Carmichael who used to work with The Commodores and Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder and Peter Asher, the album saw Ross moving in a more adult contemporary direction. The album yielded the top 40 R&B ballad, "When You Tell Me That You Love Me", Ross' last top forty R&B hit on the Billboard chart. Although the album tanked in the USA, it was a double platinum hit (600,000 copies sold) in the U.K. and yielded 5 top 40 hits.
The song "If We Hold On Together" was prominently featured as the closing credits theme for the Don Bluth animated children's film, The Land Before Time (1988).
The U.K. edition of The Force Behind the Power has an additional song, "No Matter What You Do," which is a duet with Al B. Sure!.
