The End Records came into existence in 1998, its sights set on offering discriminating listeners the best in eclectic, avantgarde metal. That goal was achieved over the following years, with the release of albums by Ulver, Agalloch, Peccatum, Arcturus, and others. It wouldn’t take long before the label embraced an even wider variety of styles, from the avant-hardcore of Crisis to legends like Voivod and The Gathering to the straightforward bludgeon of Thine Eyes Bleed and the sinister legacy left by Dissection. From there the label found itself in a unique position: It had a solid identity, an identity based on exploding boundaries rather than creating them. Now multi-faceted acts like Stolen Babies, Giant Squid, Estradasphere, Unexpect, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and Tub Ring sit comfortably alongside newer signings like Sigh and Enemy Of The Sun. The End recently signed a rock band out of Finland called Lordi, multi-platinum in their country and currently looking to expand their audience in the U.S.
2008 will see releases from respected and experienced artists like Jarboe and Mindless Self Indulgence, as well as further offerings from longtime The End acts Sculptured and Virgin Black.
The company has continually expanded and is now divided into various departments:

- Unruly Sounds (fundamentally uncompromising and underground releases)
