The Dykeenies are a New Wave indie rock band formed in mid-2005 in Cumbernauld, Scotland. The band is composed of brothers Alan Henderson, Andrew Henderson and Brian Henderson, alongside childhood friends Steven Ramsay and John Kerr. The band took their name from the 1988 George Lucas and Ron Howard film Willow (although the film script spells the word "daikinis").

[edit] History
[edit] Beginnings and King Tut's (June 2005 – July 2006)
The band played their first headline gig at the 350-capacity ABC2, a small venue in Glasgow in late 2005. The gig was a sell-out show. In November 2005, they were named as the inaugural "Artist of the Month" in the "Your Sound" competition - a scheme run by Glasgow music venue King Tut's Wah Wah Hut along with DF Concerts to project local unsigned talent. They would go on to play a sold-out show at King Tut's, despite only ever having appeared at the venue once before. They progressed to play an even bigger venue in Glasgow when they supported Mystery Jets at Glasgow's Queen Margaret Union (one of two Student unions of Glasgow University)on May 3, 2006, despite at this point never having released a single.
The band made their first official release through the Filthy Little Angels Christmas compilation album Have Yourself a Filthy Little Christmas with the track "New Ideas".
The band later signed to King Tut's Recordings, a label created by King Tut's to project minor bands to more mainstream record labels. Again, despite having little or no material available at the time, the band were asked to play the "T Break" stage at T in the Park in Kinross, Scotland, on July 9, 2006. They would release their first single, a double a-side of "New Ideas/Will It Happen Tonight?" on King Tut's Recordings on July 17, 2006. They also recorded a video for the single. Following the release, the band were signed to indie record label Lavolta Records in September 2006, home to the likes of Fell City Girl and Liam Frost and the Slowdown Family[1].
[edit] Lavolta Records (September 2006 – present)
In November 2006, the band released their first record for new label Lavolta, an EP featuring the tracks "Waiting for Go", "Things You Cannot See", "Feels Like Sleep" and "Dark Time". The band worked with producer Jim Abbiss on the lead track, which was mixed by Cenzo Townshend. A video was also created for the lead track.
In late 2006 they played on the NME O2 Rock 'n' Roll Riot Tour, alongside The Horrors,The Fratellis and The Maccabees
Following the more mainstream success of the recent single and EP, the band were given another boost into the musical limelight with the help from Xfm Scotland. The radio station began by asking them to be a part of Xfm Scotland's first ever "Winter Wonderland" gig, one of three winter festivals taking place in venues across the UK. They were then called up again to support Maxïmo Park at Edinburgh's Liquid Room as part of "Xfm Live Sessions" on March 31, 2007.
Following numerous headline and support gigs in and around Glasgow between November 2006-April 2007, The Dykeenies would finally return with a new single. On April 9, 2007, they released a new recording of "New Ideas", with previously unreleased tracks "Safe", "Simplify" and "Layers" featuring alongside various remixes as b-sides. The band marked the release by playing their first headline gig at Glasgow's QMU, a venue they had previously only played supporting Mystery Jets. This single was the band's first entry into the UK Singles Chart, entering for one week at number 54 on April 16[2]. The band then released "Clean Up Your Eyes" on July 9, 2007, reaching #53.
On August 7, 2007, the band announced through MySpace that their next single, "Stitches", would be released on September 10, 2007. The band then plan to release their debut album, Nothing Means Everything, one week later on September 17, 2007. Xfm again called upon The Dykeenies to play along side The Editors and Razorlight at RockNess' Xfm Mainstage.
