[edit] Recording
The Defeat of Satan demo was recorded during the time when the band was known as Crush Evil. In 1991 when the demo was released, the Norwegian black metal inner circle was developing rapidly and churches were burning; Crush Evil opposed these actions by releasing an extreme metal demo with lyrics about the victory of Christ and the deception of satan. Leading musicians of the black metal movement sent the band death threats because of their ideology.
The demo features minimalistic brand of death metal with death growl vocals and sometimes black metal type shrieking vocals. The songs clock at over 10 minutes in duration. The demo ends with an industrial music type outro titled "Knus Ondskapen".[1]
The Defeat of Satan together with the following demo, Despair, were re-released on the album The Defeat of Satan in 2003 through Momentum Scandinavia.
