[edit] Departments
The school offers a wide range of subjects, within the following departments;
[edit] Art & Technology
The Deepings School art facilities consist of the second floor of the Design block. Recently, ICT has been introducted to increase the role thereof in art.
[edit] Communications
The oldest part of the school serves as the English language block. Students may take both English language and English Literature for GCSE, and have the option of doing Communication Studies or English Literature at A-level.
Foreign languages are also taught at the school. These consist of French and German. Since the removal of a compulsory language at GCSE level in 2004, uptake of a second language has decreased at level 2 stage. French is taken overall by more students than German.
Although attempts have been to introduce other languages, these so far remain confined only to after school and night classes.
Spanish is also held as an after school club for people who want to, top class year 7 of 2007-2008 adcadmic year and year 10 group of 5 are being taught it.
[edit] Science and Maths
Science is taught along the national Curriculum. Of interest is the Further Maths course at A-level, which unlike at many schools, is timetabled.
[edit] Humanities
As well as Geography and History being taught, Philosophy and Sociology have recently seen larger uptakes for A-level courses.
[edit] History
The school was originally called the Deepings County Secondary Modern School. Whilst under this name, the headmaster, Vivian Sweet, was killed in a crash in his Ford Cortina on October 2nd 1974 at North Rauceby on the A17. The school became a comprehensive school in the mid-1970s - the only true comprehensive in South Kesteven, and takes pupils also from Stamford. The Deepings Leisure Centre is on the school grounds.
