The Dead Betties is a Brooklyn, NY-based rock band, comprised of lead singer/bassist Joshua Starr, drummer Derek Pippin, and guitarist Eric Shepherd. The band is best known for their intense, angular songwriting, live sound explorations, explosive performances, and scathing lyrical challenges to mainstream social norms. The Dead Betties formed in 2002.

Early performances at venues such as CBGB's, Siberia, Sin-e, and Southpaw earned The Dead Betties a loyal following in New York City. With headlining slots on nation-wide and international tours and festivals between 2004 and 2006 (Homo-a-Gogo (Olympia, WA), SXSW (Austin, TX), CMJ (New York City), and Toronto Pride (Toronto, Canada)) -- The Dead Betties reached a broader audience. The Dead Betties frequently perform in New York City, and regularly tour major cities in the United States and Canada.
