The Day the Earth Stood Still is a 2008 science fiction film, a remake of the 1951 film of the same name. Directed by Scott Derrickson and starring Keanu Reeves as Klaatu, the film updates the Cold War themes of man against man, to the New Age concerns of man against nature.[1]

Scott Derrickson will direct a screenplay written by Ryne Douglas Pearson and David Scarpa. Filming began in Vancouver on December 12, 2007.[6] Tyler Bates was hired to compose the score in January 2008.[7]

The film was originally scheduled for release on May 9, 2008, but was delayed because filming commenced later than scheduled. It is due for release on December 12, 2008.[8]
