The Darling DeMaes

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Darling DeMaes are a Montreal-based music group formed by songwriter and singer/guitarist, Erik Virtanen, and electric guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Buz (Marc-Andre Mongrain). The complete line-up includes Alec Ellsworth on fretless bass, Sami Kizilbash on drums, and Tasha Cyr on vocals. Their music is self-described as “somewhere between ‘Happiness is a Warm Gun’, Radiohead, and ‘Be My Baby’”. Their visual lyrics drift from hope and joy to horrifying images of the everyday.

Winter Keep Us Warm Acoustic (2007) - EP

In May of 2007, the DeMaes independently released their 8-song debut “Winter Keep Us Warm”, produced by Mark Andrew Lawson at Red Rhino Recording Studios in Montreal. The percussionless EP was recorded live-off-the-floor and was intended as a demo tape to help the band book shows. Instead, the demo was released as an acoustic EP and received critical acclamations by reviewers and charted on university radio stations. The EP features Elysia Torneria on vocal harmonies and glockenspiel.
