The Darkest Nights is the third single from the metalcore band As I Lay Dying's third album Shadows Are Security. There was a video made for the song as well. The video begins with a scene of a small Middle-Eastern village, where the villagers are being terrorized and killed by black-clothed horsemen. A man, his wife, and their infant escape from the village, and are pursued by the mounted warriors. The man is killed, and his wife continues to flee the horsemen, all the while carrying her baby. She becomes trapped on a beach with nowhere to run, but an army of white-clothed horsemen appear and do battle with her pursuers. There are heavy casualties on both sides after the battle, but all of the "dark knights" have been slain. The remaining white-clad warriors bring the woman and her baby to a cave, where other villagers, who had supposedly been saved by the white-clothed horsemen, are there to meet her. The white-robed horsemen probably represent hope that remains in a bad situation, as indicated by the line: "These thoughts will carry me through the darkest nights."
