[edit] Biography
The band was formed by Belfast News Letter writer Andrew (Griswold) Johnston (born 6 June 1973 in Ballymena, and previously a member of The Queers, Disorder, The Bus Station Loonies and many local Northern Irish bands) with friends in March 2000. Despite continual line-up changes, the band became notorious for touring the United Kingdom and Ireland almost non-stop from 2001.
Following several EPs and singles, debut album Born To Rock was released in December 2005. This album included the song Maniac, which was later covered by Earache Records act Gama Bomb.
The Dangerfields have performed almost 1,000 live shows. Show number 666 took place in Belfast on 6 June 2006, a date which was also Andrew Griswold's thirty-third birthday.
In January 2007, the band performed five shows in Ireland opening for The Supersuckers. In March 2007, they completed a full UK and Irish tour as main support for Stiff Little Fingers on their thirtieth anniversary, including major shows at Belfast Ulster Hall, Glasgow Barrowland, Manchester Academy and London Astoria. In August 2007, they toured the UK and Ireland as special guests of The Dwarves.
They have also toured or made one-off appearances with Snow Patrol, The Misfits, The Damned, The Exploited, Flogging Molly, Nashville Pussy, Zeke, Warrior Soul, Life Of Agony and many more.
In May 2002, the band appeared in Birmingham alongside Rockbitch at one of that band's final UK shows. Johnny Reid (aka Goatboy), the Dangerfields' bass player at the time, caught the 'golden condom' during the headliner's act, going on to have sex with two of the girls at the side of the stage.
In November 2004, while on a UK tour to promote their Hellride EP, they were involved in a serious road accident on the A1 near Londonderry, North Yorkshire when the van they were sharing with The Independents overturned at high speed.
In May 2005, Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden invited the band to perform at his live BBC 6 Music roadshow in Belfast alongside Therapy? and Funeral For A Friend. Dickinson later interviewed the band live on air, and again in November 2005.
The band has also received airplay on BBC Radio 1, as well as local Northern Irish radio. In December 2005, Across The Line broadcast an exclusive four song studio session. In March 2007, two songs from their 2006 Tennents ViTal performance were broadcast on ATL TV on BBC Two Northern Ireland.
The current line-up comprises Griswold on drums and lead vocals; Jasper "Guitar" Vincent (born Jasper van Vliet in Leiden, Netherlands), formerly of Daddy Fantastic, the band formed by Big Brother 7 winner Pete Bennett, on lead guitar; and Jamie Delerict (born Jamie Haugh in Durham, England), formerly of Panic and Marky Ramone's band, on bass guitar and backing vocals.
In the October 2007 edition of AU, the Dangerfields were placed at number 30 in a list of "Ireland's Top 40 Must See Acts". Also in October 2007, Jamie Delerict performed guest lead vocals with the Misfits at several shows on that band's "30th Anniverscary" tour.
According to the Dangerfields' MySpace blog, a second album will be recorded and released during 2008 entitled In The Night. Select tour dates have been announced for March 2008 in the UK (with Richard Bacchus of D Generation); April 2008 in the Netherlands; and August 2008 in the UK and Ireland (opening for The Murder Junkies).
